Sheldon Lavin Makes OSI Group a Global Brand

The success of OSI Group as a leading meat processor is largely attributed to Sheldon Lavin, the incumbent CEO of the company. Since he took over the leadership of OSI Group, the visionary businessperson has steered the firm into gaining entry to several international markets. Today, OSI operates over 70 facilities that are scattered in 17 countries. The workforce has surged to 20,000 and annual revenue has passed the $6billion mark, making OSI Group one of the top 50 private firms in the world.

Sheldon Lavin has been in the meat industry for over four decades where he built an unmatched reputation for immense contributions towards the growth of the industry. Before making entry to this sector, he spent his time as a financial consultant. During this period, his firm was contracted to facilitate capital raising activities of many meat companies among them OSI Group, which was then known as Otto & Sons. This gave him a chance to have a clear glimpse on the potential of the industry. Finally, Sheldon decided to quit the financial industry to venture into the meat business. He acquired a 50% stake in OSI Group, which subsequently turned into full ownership after the retirement of his partner who was holding the other 50%.

Recently, OSI Group acquired Baho Food and Flagship Europe, a move that is expected to expand the balance sheet of the company further. The incredible growth OSI Group has posted over the years has given Sheldon Lavin the ability to make philanthropic donations aimed at supporting various communities. As a sign of giving back to the community, Lavin supports Ronald McDonald House Charity, the Inner City Foundation of Chicago and the Jewish United Fund. Lavin has also extended his charity donations to Evans Scholarship Fund and United Negro College Fund.

Modular Greenhouses Promotes Home Gardening to Consumers

An international group recently developed a product that copies the way living plant and animal systems store, capture and distribute water. This product will be used in the future for growing sustainable food locally by farmers.

This product designed by NexLoop has received the Ray C. Anderson Foundation Ray of Hope Prize. They were awarded $100,000 for winning the Biomimicry Global Design Challenge. The product called AquaWeb helps urban growers store, collect, and distribute water. It is a modular water sourcing system.

It uses rain and fog instead of groundwater to collect water. It can be used by urban farms, greenhouses, container farms, and indoor vertical farms. The company studied drought tolerant plants like the crystalline ice plant that stores water and the Jersey cow mushroom that distributes water. Their product can help with growing more food locally in many communities.

Josh Smith CEO of Modular Greenhouses in Reno, NV, developed an interest in health, food, nutrition and gardening when his grandfather died of cancer when he was a child. He studied the history and science of botany for years. Josh graduated from the University of Nevada and began to look for a greenhouse that was cost effective and easy to build.

When he did not find one he like he decided to start a company and build his own. His greenhouses are designed to change the way communities and families eat by making it easy to grow organic fruits and vegetables. Josh Smith donated one of his greenhouses to the High Desert Montessori School in Reno to help them develop a gardening program for the kids.

His greenhouses are computer controlled using a application that make it easy to control temperature, watering, and the environment for growing. The greenhouses sold in different sizes are designed to withstand snow and high wind. They sell accessories like shelving, venting and heating options.

Those with little growing experience find Modular Greenhouses easy to assemble and grow fruits and vegetable in their own homes. Josh Smith of Reno continues plans to expand the business Modular Greenhouses.
